Wang Wei, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Executive Vice President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Deputy Party Secretary and President of Tongji Hospital.
He presides over the administrative work of the hospital and the work of the 2nd Clinical Medicine College. He is responsible for discipline construction, human resources, performance management, audit, tendering, cadre health care, and routine administrative work. He is in charge of the Human Resource Department, Audit Department, Tender Office, Economic Management Office, Cadre Health Care Office and President Office.
Wang Wei is a professor, chief physician, doctoral supervisor, and winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2008). The Ministry of Education has honored Dr. Wang as the Distinguished Professor of Changjiang Scholars Program (2008). He also wins such honors as Youth Post Expert of National Health System (1999), Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions in Hubei Province (2005) and Medical Leader in Hubei Province (2013). He is currently Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Executive Vice President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, President of Tongji Hospital, and Director of Institute of Neurology, Tongji Hospital. Concurrently, he assumes such roles as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Neural Injury and Functional Reconstruction sponsored by the Ministry of Education, associate editor of the fiver-year textbook Neurology of the Ministry of Health (People's Medical Publishing House), Vice Chairman of Sino-German Society of Medicine, a Standing Committee Member of Chinese Society of Neurology, Chinese Medical Association, and Vice Chairman of Neurology Branch, Chinese Medical Doctor Association. In recent years, as the principle project leader, he has presided over 1 major special project under 973 Program, 1 project under the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 2 major research projects under the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 major project under the Ministry of Health, and 3 general projects under the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has achieved remarkable achievements in innovation for the research of pathogenesis and treatment strategies of major neurological diseases. He is also very productive in publications of papers, with total 105 SCI papers being recorded in well-renowned journals such as Lancet, BMJ, Lancet Digital Health, Lancet Resp Med, and Ann Neurol, registering a cumulative impact factor of 563.927 and a total of 2799 citations. Prof. Wang Wei is well recognized for being the first to discover the association between glial gap junction intercellular communication and ischemic injury at distal site and cognitive impairment worldwide. He has proposed that regulating cell cycle is a new therapeutic target for central nervous system injury in the future. And he has demonstrated the effectiveness of Qi acupuncture therapy for facial paralysis and migraine. As the principle contributor, he has been awarded with Second Prize of National Natural Science Award, First Prize of Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education, and First Prize of Natural Science Award of Hubei Province.
