Delegation of the Envoys of South American and Caribbean Countries to China Visited Tongji Hospital

Wuhan has regained its vitality for so long. The expression "Wuhan is a heroic city." has long been familiar to us. In this beautiful and magical land, last year witnessed a thrilling battle against the epidemic. Today, its lost hustle and bustle can be found again. Wuhan embarks on a new journey to develop, being safe, healthy, and energetic.

 

At 9 am April 27, a delegation of 32 envoys from South American and Caribbean countries (Uruguay, Jamaica, Mexico, Bahamas, Ecuador, Peru, Dominica, Dominica, Chile, Suriname, Colombia, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Guyana, El Salvador, Barbados, Argentina, Brazil, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago) visited the Optical Valley Branch of Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Bai Xiangjun, vice president of Tongji Hospital and president of Optical Valley campus, and Tang Zhouping, executive vice president of Optical Valley campus, accommodated the guests.

On April 12th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Hubei Provincial Government held the special event titled "Heroic Hubei: Reborn from Glories" to present Hubei to the world. The visit to Tongji Hospital is an important part of the special event.

 

The delegation visited the hospital's cultural street and had a discussion with representatives of anti-epidemic medical workers in Tongji Hospital. Vice President Bai Xiangjun introduced Tongji Hospital's anti-epidemic overview, experience, summary, and resumption of medical work after the epidemic to the delegates. During the epidemic, the number of available beds, the number of critical patients, and the number of fever clinic visits in Tongji Hospital were the highest in Wuhan. It has explored the systematic critical care treatment protocols such as "strengthen the epidemic control at lower level", "multidisciplinary cooperation", and "refined management", which has been promoted nation-widely by the State Council’s Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism. The experts with China-WHO Joint Mission on COVID-19 highly evaluated "Tongji experience". Based on the outstanding performance of Tongji Hospital in the fight against the epidemic and the overall strength of the hospital, the National Health Commission decided to set up a National Medical Center of Major Public Health Events with Tongji Hospital as the main body to promote the national major public health incident response capacity and medical treatment quality .

Subsequently, six frontline medical and nursing representatives from the Department of Ophthalmology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Anesthesiology, Oncology, Hematology, and Nursing Department of Tongji Hospital shared their anti-epidemic stories with the delegates in English, from "Tongji speed, 5 days to renovate the ward", "Fight side by side with the medical aid team in Hubei", "Three most memorable days", "My most memorable patient", to "Support the construction of Huoshenshan Hospital, and prepare 94 wards in 6 hours".

The head of the delegation, Uruguay’s ambassador to China, Mr. Juan Fernando Lugris Rodriguez, expressed his gratitude to Chinese medical workers for their sharing. 2020 is a special year for China, and we should thank the medical workers for their contributions. From a global perspective, the current epidemic is far from over, and countries need to strengthen cooperation. China's anti-epidemic experience is particularly valuable and worthy of promotion to the world.

It is reported that during the epidemic, Tongji Hospital took the lead in launching the "Anti-epidemic Online Meeting" with other countries, with a total of 26 sessions with 12 countries. On April 13, 2020, experts from Tongji Hospital held a video meeting on the prevention and treatment of the novel coronavirus with Peru, Colombia, Bolivia and other Andean countries in South America , and conducted in-depth exchanges on detection methods, prevention and control measures, clinical treatment, and asymptomatic infections, lending a helping hand for the people of South America in the fight against the epidemic.
