Dr. PranK. Datta from University of Alabama at Birmingham Visited Tongji Hospital

On April 9th 2013, Dr. Pran  K. Datta, Professor and Director of Research in the Division of Hematology/Oncology Division,  Medical College of University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) visited Tongji Hospital and extended his academic visit in Hepatic Surgery Department for a week, Tongji Hospital.

Dr. Datta is Professor and Director of Research in the Division of Hematology/Oncology. He is also leader of the Colon and Lung Cancer Basic Research Program. He serves as Research Scientist at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Datta majors in the mechanism of TGF-β signaling in Colorectal Cancer and Lung Cancer. Dr. Datta published his research results in some famous international journals such as Gastroenterology, Cancer Research, JBC and he also serves as the Reviewer for Cancer Research, Clinical Cancer Research, Neoplasia. There has been a long cooperation relationship between Dr. Datta and Hepatic Surgery Department and he was invited to attend the international academic conferences held by our hospital several times and discussed with us about the new development in his research field, which inspired the counterparts a lot.

For this time, Dr. Datta would hold the academic lectures and take part in the 2013 Doctorate Thesis Defense in Hepatic Surgery. On the afternoon of April 11st, Dr. Datta held a lecture with the theme of Loss of Smad4 in Colorectal Cancer Induces Resistance to 5-Fluorouracil through Activating Akt Pathway, which inspired the enthusiasm of audiences from Oncology, Surgery, and Cell Biology departments present.

In addition to that, Dr. Datta also visited new Surgery Building, Biliary-Pancreatic Research Institute, Hepatic Surgery Laboratory and extended the further cooperation with the leaders from those departments.
