2025 International Symposium on Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid and Metabolism

With the rapid development of economy and the improvement of living standards, the modern nutritional structure and lifestyle are undergoing rapid changes. The incidence and mortality of chronic metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease and tumor are continuously increasing, which severely threatens public health and brings huge medical burden to society. Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress are the main causes of chronic metabolic diseases, and inflammatory mediators produced by the metabolism of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) play important roles in the pathogenesis of these diseases.

Since the discovery of aspirin with antipyretic and analgesic effects in the 18th century, and the Nobel Prize in 1982 for the discovery of prostaglandins and their related active substances, researches on the physiological and pathophysiologic functions of PUFAs have made rapid progress.

The metabolism of polyunsaturated fatty acids (including w-3 and w-6) is complex and involved in a wide range of diseases. The researches include traditional molecular and cell biology, animal model studies, and various interdisciplinary fields such as genomics and pharmacology. In recent years, many studies have shown that PUFAs metabolites such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes have hormone-like effects. They not only regulate glucose and lipid metabolism and pancreatic secretion, but also play important roles in maintaining vascular homeostasis and the occurrence and development of tumors.  To grasp the latest progress in the research field of PUFAs metabolism, to strengthen the academic communication between researchers of Tongji Hospital and the counterparts domestic and abroad, to promote international cooperation and to enhance international competitiveness, the 2025 International Symposium on Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Metabolism and Disease Research will be held.

This symposium is scheduled to be held in Wuhan from November 8th to 14th, 2025, hosted by Tongji Hospital affiliated with Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The symposium will invite top experts and scholars from domestic and international related fields to organize extensive communications among participants on molecular science, nutrition, and medicine related to the metabolism of PUFAs, through expert reports, poster displays, and group discussions. Taking this opportunity, we hope to provide a platform for academic exchanges between domestic and foreign peers, and lay a solid foundation for effective international cooperation in the future.

We sincerely invite academic colleagues, graduate students, and relevant researchers from enterprises to actively participate in this symposium. Let us gather in the beautiful city of Wuhan in November.
